Doing my regular listen of presenter demos and question I& #39;m asked is "what are you looking for in a presenter?" obvs there& #39;s no easy answer and it varies - but here goes, a quick thread. (remember, only my views)
I want music presenters to demonstrate their love and passion for the songs they& #39;re playing. Be authentic, be knowledgeable, give me context. Make me as passionate about this artist as you are. Influence me, and mae we want to go away and listen to more.
I want to see/hear original thinking. If it& #39;s a breakfast-esque show, give me "me-too" moments. Be relatable, show production values and that you know your audience. Plan the links so there& #39;s an & #39;out& #39; or a punchline. Don& #39;t just say "get in touch on socials".
In a world where streaming can give you the music, you concentrate on being my friend & providing that "real" human connection. Don& #39;t have too many other voices in your demo - I& #39;m not likely to be hiring you all & it can be a struggle to get YOU when others are talking.
So many demos start with a show opener - I don& #39;t want that. I want to hear your best material and I want to hear a story. I want you to paint a picture in my mind. The most mundane elements of life can be made brilliant with great words and if it& #39;s well crafted and naturally told
Final one for now. Be YOU. Don& #39;t do an impression of someone you admire and don& #39;t shameleslly copy their style. Radio won& #39;t move forward if you sound like the people who& #39;ve gone before you. The best presenters take time to carve out their own style. It takes time but is worth it.
