not to be a weirdass privacy nut or whatever but i feel like a lot of people dont realize that mass surveillance is a LOT more than just cameras in public places. its monitoring web activity, putting backdoors in closed-source "private" apps, etc. protect activists identities.
sure you specifically might not have "anything to hide" or whatever but dont dismiss caring about online privacy as a whole because of it yknow, especially for people that are vulnerable targeted minorities, political activists, people in abusive households, etc
this isnt targeted at anyone specific btw just ive noticed people in general can be dismissive about this sort of stuff. i think making privacy a priority in messaging apps n the sort, and prioritizing open source software is a good step towards protecting people
doesnt have to be anything super deep or whatever either really, even doing the minimum of not putting invasive trackers in your service is a great first step towards creating better trust. sadly like, a LOT of specificallly mobile phone apps load their software with trackers....
recommend using something like exodus, or aurora store which is a google play frontend that uses exodus' tracker checker, to check on what your apps have in them if youre on android
and i recommend getting apps from fdroid if an app youre using is available on it because fdroid is relatively more strict about specifically hosting foss compliant apps that in most cases have any proprietary libraries removed.
dont wanna make this thread too long or anything but i will add that if anyone is gonna boast about protecting users privacy n stuff, you BEST keep up on that promise and not compromise shit. data breaches do happen but you need to prevent that! encrypt peoples private info!!
