Some in the LGBT community are giving @jk_rowling a lot of stick for this tweet. She is speaking the truth. It is possible to acknowledge this while showing respect, support and openness to trans people and those with GD. A short thread. 1/ https://twitter.com/jk_rowling/status/1279756114981240834">https://twitter.com/jk_rowlin...
The fight for legal acceptance of people who are homosexual was long. It is still being fought in many places. What is often overlooked by those who aren& #39;t gay is that the first "coming out" we do is to ourselves. We have to accept that "I am attracted to my own sex" 2/
There was a campaign a few years ago #ItGetsBetter that sought to send a message to young people who were starting the journey of coming out, that despite the challenges they might be facing that things would improve. This was a good and positive thing to do. 3/
What we are seeing now is a step backwards. Mainstream LGBT organisations are promoting the idea that to be lesbian or gay is not to be homosexual, but rather it is to be attracted to the "same-gender" 4/
If you believe this or promote it, you are promoting the idea that a person who is only attracted to members of their own sex (homosexual) can be either gay or straight, depending on how they identify their gender. 5/
When mainstream LGBT orgs are telling homosexuals that they may be straight because of their identity and despite their sexual orientation, something has gone terribly wrong. 6/
Lesbians have been raising the alarm about this for years and have been shouted down and called bigots and worse. I have been proud to add my small voice to theirs and I thank @jk_rowling for using her platform to add her much louder one
