It was #NationalMeadowsDay on 4th July, so we wanted to highlight ways YOU can help create, nurture & support meadows. It doesn't need to hard, in fact, the most SIMPLE thing you can do is simply stop mowing your lawn. Easiest thing ever! More info here: https://www.plantlife.org.uk/uk/about-us/news/no-mow-may-how-to-get-ten-times-more-bees-on-your-lockdown-lawn https://twitter.com/PlantlifeCymru/status/1279078274401001473
If you love wildflowers - or simply love having bees that provide us global food security..! - then give this video a watch. @Love_plants has a great YouTube channel showcasing stunning flowering meadows.
Whilst there's much campaigning to do for restoring meadows, you can make a meadow in your own garden. Even if it's a tiny square, a small bit of grass with daisies and dandelions will be a lifeline for your local bees. @BuzzingWales @BuzzingWales https://www.bumblebeeconservation.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/BBCT067-FFCC-Meadow-06.17.pdf
You can't underestimate how much a small amount can do. If you leave your lawn for a few months, the seed bank below will produce beauties you NEVER knew were even in there! Bugle, forget-me-nots, poppies, ox-eye daisies... really eye-catching diversity.
Finally, a couple of practical links on how you can get started on making your garden a wildlife haven. Then, you'll help the butterflies, bees, bugs, every kind of insect. All vital links in the food web. Here's @Love_plants again, with practical tips https://plantlife.love-wildflowers.org.uk/wildflower_garden
For reading material, @DaveGoulson has three books all themed around insect habitats. And a fabulous YouTube channel, showcasing his own efforts. If you don't have any outdoor space, pop this on the big screen and you'll feel like you're there!
Finally, to support NGOs campaigning for this to be led & funded by our governments... please consider joining one of our members. Many work on this, including (but by no means limited to): @PlantlifeCymru @WTWales @BuglifeCymru @NTWales @CoedCadw @BuzzingWales @RSPBCymru 🌷🌼🌻
