Other reasons that Taiwan was able to achieve such great success in dealing with COVID-19: big data analytics, early action, resource allocation, transparency, and common courtesy.
/ Big data analytics. Taiwan integrated its national health insurance database with its immigration and customs database such that all hospitals can access patients’ travel histories.
/ Early action. Taiwan didn’t wait until coronavirus broke out to take action. In January, despite the fact that the WHO disregarded the virus’ potential for human-to-human transmission, Taiwan already enforced travel restrictions, quarantines, contact tracing, and testing.
/ Resource allocation. The government rationed their supply of masks and invested nearly $7M to create 60 new mask production lines. This was something the US had the power to do with the Defense Production Act (DPA) but Trump refused to invoke it for PPE.
.5/ The DPA allows private companies to produce goods for the country. Trump's refusal to invoke the DPA for masks meant the US was still sending masks overseas even though cases were surging in America. @hasanminhaj explains this very well in season 6 episode 3 of @patriotact.
/ Transparency. There were regular broadcasts made to educate the public and fight misinformation. Compare this to China’s attempts at covering up the outbreaks and reporting false stats.
