The most striking thing about so many accounts that rose to prominence through promotion of Brexit and were indulged by analysts and journalists is how in the last 6 months they have doubled down on the aggressive resentment and intellectual incoherence that was always apparent

Remarkable how little it took for certain accounts to be promoted as thought leaders of Brexit by journalists and analysts desperate to find some kind of coherent intellectual underpinnings to such a form of geopolitical self-relegation

If you believe sacrificing stability for your interpretation of sovereignty is worth it than own the consequences and prepare for them

If you think a Norway-style position is preferable to protect stability then face up to what it means for UK influence over the region around it

But as analysts and journalists indulge accounts that believe actions do not have consequences and are unwilling to drop culture war bullshit to build bipartisan consensus, instead we have key Brexiter factions drifting ever deeper into blame-shifting and fantasy geopolitics

Any UK faction unwilling to face the asymmetry of power between London and Brussels or the growing fracture between Edinburgh and London will not build a stable geopolitical position for the UK
