A thread on what’s going on in Melbourne, Australia.
At 4:45pm Saturday the 4th of July,
The predominantly African community living in 9 public housing apartments which equates to 3000 residents were forced to stay in their homes being imprisoned with no warning due to an ‘increase’ of COVID-19 cases.
There is and has been a high presence of police at every entry and exit of these areas (over 500) including on every floor. They have been told they’ll receive care packages but instead were given expired food.
They are being stripped of basic human necessities such as food, medication, sanitary supplies aswell as infant needs such as baby formula and nappies.
They are being harassed by the police and are being threatened to get tested or else their 5 day hard lockdown will be extended to 14 days. There has already been a reported case of attempted suicide and despite that nothing has been done by the government.
Rather the wider community that has come together to make their own care packages specific to all the families but are facing trouble getting the necessities to them.
This has gotten media attention in Australia but nothing has been done.
