[Thread] You know who else went out of his way to invite personalities, respected members of society, and reputable scientists to showcase his products and tech? John W. Keely, founder of the infamous Keely Motor Company. Long story short the entire thing was fake, a ...
... fraud, a scam, and it that lasted for 28 years until Kelly was hit by a car and died.

So why did Keely insist on regularly inviting so many people to inspect his fraudulent products?

1st, like any magician, Keely was in control of the presentation and showed people ...
... only what he wanted them to see.

2nd, Keely always made sure to provide his guests with a positive experience (e.g. food, beverages, entertainment, etc.)

3rd, the mere fact Keely could say he invited these individuals to attend his presentations, legitimized him, his ...
... company, and his products.

4th, the fact Keely could boast about these individuals attending his presentations, legitimized everything even more. Newspaper articles and gossip of these events enticed various people to invest in Keely

5th, since none of these individuals ...
... could actually prove the whole thing was a fraud (since Keely made sure the demonstrations were rigged that way, like any good magician would) even the guests who remained highly skeptical following the demonstrations unwittingly legitimized Kelly and his enterprise ...
... even more than those guests who were entirely convinced. It's easy to dismiss a believer. It's difficult to dismiss a skeptic that can't prove his gut feeling.

6th, Scientific and engineering breakthroughs are almost always dismissed at first. Keely, like any good snake ...
oil salesman, used this fact to entice people to invest early to make big returns before the opportunity passed as it always does when it goes mainstream

7th, Keely, like any good con man, knew his invitations were hard to decline because they were exclusive: people like ...
... to be sought after and invited to hot-topic events. People like the limelight and notoriety that comes from being amongst the chosen few.

This concludes my 2-cent rant. Please know, that regardless of what you decide, I will not think any less of you. 🙂
