I run a business that doesn’t allow me to exclusively work from home. (Indeed, that was part of the charm, pre-pandemic.) Now, I’d love nothing more than to work from home for the next four-six weeks... or months. But I’ve got projects underway and one with a tight deadline.
I’ve no practical option other than to forge ahead and do my best with PPE and hope for the best. And then hope that if somehow the worst happens, I’m not one of the few who gets the worst version of it. Sure, odds are in my favor, but I what a gamble! Many are in this position.
No one wants to risk their life or long-term health — or that of a loved one — for their job. (With the benefit of hindsight, we’d all choose health.) But there’s no other realistic choice and that’s what’s so frustrating. Worse, this virus isn’t just lingering; it’s thriving.
How much easier to be the person who believes this all to be a hoax or a flu or some overplayed media or political conspiracy. How much easier this must be for the person who can afford to expend energy on mask mandates or reduced capacity dining options. I’m jealous.
I don’t have an end-game in mind for this, just worn out. Maybe you are too. Maybe it’s good to recognize we’re not alone in our frustration, exhaustion. Much of my work can be distilled into finding solutions to problems. This pandemic is one for which there seems no solution.
I try to keep it real on this timeline — perhaps to the annoyance of some. That’s fine. It’s possible we all overestimate the importance of our online contributions. In truth, I never know what to do with this space. Hell maybe this was a diary entry not a social media post. https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🤷🏻‍♂️" title="Achselzuckender Mann (heller Hautton)" aria-label="Emoji: Achselzuckender Mann (heller Hautton)">https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="✌🏻" title="Siegeshand (heller Hautton)" aria-label="Emoji: Siegeshand (heller Hautton)">
