Wendy believes Eleanor and Park is racist, and therefore this essay is racist. At the time, did not respond in any way to Wendy's multiple-week campaign of harassment. During that time, she contacted friends of mine and people tried to get me fired from BuzzFeed.
I have otherwise literally never interacted with Wendy except for once prior to this when we went to drinks with one of our mutual friends and got along great, and an admittedly very stupid subtweet of mine when she got her book deal. That's it.
I know who I am. I know what my flaws are. I know the company I keep and what I care about. This is the only thing I'll be saying about this stupid bullshit that comes up literally any time Eleanor and Park news gets announced, despite my having nothing to do with it.
Wendy can claim that she didn't instigate a multiple-week harassment campaign against me for this essay, but she's known for this kind of behavior, and I know I'm not the only one she's done it to. So dassit, dudes. If you've found my Twitter because of her, that's the story.
Because it might not be abundantly clear here: the critique of E&P is legitimate and I seek out and read it. The book means so much to me in terms of fat representation, which does not mean it's perfect or unproblematic.
I do wish that any time E&P news was announced I wasn't dragged into it again because I wrote a personal essay about a totally different praxis five years ago.
