QUESTIONS FOR CHANGE
How many of us feel helpless with the current state of the UK and the prospect of a no deal exit? The government are playing with us, inviting us to react to inflammatory tweets, dog whistling supporters, goading detractors. The politics of division. 1
We can change the dynamic of this debate. WE NEED TO IGNORE THE GOVERNMENT! They have added nothing constructive for a very long time. It is time to stop being reactionary as this platform invites. I am guilty of this, it is time to become proactive and target another tier. 2
of decision makers who whilst being sidelined by the demands of the current pandemic have also been sidelined by Government. These are firstly local authorities. We can try these big hitters;
@SadiqKhan
@AndyBurnhamGM
@BrumLordMayor
As well as your own Town or City. 3
They all have a relevant voice. In the event of a no deal exit local authorities, especially those as large as the ones above will have to enact the decisions and actions of central government, they have a duty to provide services and ensure the supply of food into cities. 4
Retailers will not be able to keep the supply of food flowing into our Cities. Johnson may well promise to allow goods into the UK unchecked, EU countries will not allow the flow the other way without checks. Would you send a goods vehicle to the UK not knowing when it will 6
return because of massive congestion at hard borders. If food supplies dry up civil disturbance will surely follow. Prices will increase and the black market for Goods and services will flourish. Police resources have been slashed. Will authorities have the resources to 7
to contain any disorder? My questions to local authorities are;
Have you made any contingency plans for "No Deal" exit?
Do you have the resources to cope with a "No Deal" exit?
How will essential Services be affected by a "No Deal" exit?
Will you require additional funding 8
to plan for a "No Deal" exit? There are many more issues for instance school meals. If there is a no deal exit and supply routes suffer disruption just in time manufacturers will not be able to operate, factories will close and relocate, this will cause mass unemployment 9
In the manufacturing sector, the supply chain will be affected as well. Also manufacturers are not going to want to pay tariffs. Many traditional Tory supporters have small businesses of the type that rely on rents being paid, both commercial and domestic. 10
With mass unemployment who is going to pay rents? Mortgages and repossessions are going to be a problem also. Who is going to house families and individuals and individuals who default? Small business owners need to consider where they are sourcing goods and services from, 11
can you source these goods locally? If you can maybe it is a good idea to form those relationships now try to protect yourself and your employees. 12
Lastly the inspiration behind this thread has been talking to someone who has a small business that is concerned with trying to resolve these issues. He has one major concern, that is the damage that will be caused to the children and youth of the UK. 13
So if you voted remain or leave in the referendum no one voted to damage the future of young people in the UK. One thing that is certain in the event of a "No Deal" exit the economic pain and all of it's effects are going to be carried by the young of this country 14
for a lot longer than it will by those of us who were old enough to vote in the referendum. Only a very few people will remain unaffected by this sort of exit, so no matter how you voted hopefully there are other avenues we can take to get a dialogue. Thanks for reading. END
