lets discuss fukurodani and the new chapter. first tho lemme just say that fukurodani isnt my favorite team, nor would i consider it to be One Of my favorites, so i didnt fixate to much on their dynamic/interactions (or what of them) when (1/?) -
we saw them but fukurodani is So Much More than Just bokuaka and i think some fans need to realize that. this chapter's bokuto line -- "world, are you watching our ace?" -- is so much more than just another iconic bkak line/one for bkak stans to focus on (like how "we are the -
protagonists of the world" was, though that too could be included in this thread despite the focus on bkak in the panel itself but i digress),, and not just bc of the fact that the other fukurodani members show up along with akaashi in the spread nor the fact that it says "our -
ace" and not "My ace"

we didnt get many fukurodani-centric/only interactions At All bc of the fact that the whole team isnt vital to hinatas own character-volleyball development so it makes sense that (some) bkak stans think of these lines more as a bkak thing rather than a -
team thing: really all we got was bokuto/akaashi, lowkey bokuto/konoha, and the lowest-of-keys konoha/komi.. even so from the interactions that we Did get, the ones that we Did see, its clear that they do care for each other, do adore, do Love each other, even outside the court -
-- after all, they wouldnt necessarily be watching (and cheering on) bokuto in this match if they didnt, right?

sure, in high school, they would "ignore" bokuto when he got into one of his emo modes but that was only to help him get back into the gist of playing and allow him -
to "become" Fukurodani's Ace again. it was purposeful, calculated, and was effective practically, if not Every, time. and im sure that praise they gave him wasnt just a "oh lets do/say [this] to appease bokuto and keep him to lively spirits to secure the win" (after all we saw -
that they were plenty capable of securing points without bokuto there) they genuinely believed some of it -- maybe not the "oh bokuto look all the girls are in love with u bc of how cool u are rn" but the things that were more along the lines of "oh ur such an amazing ace!" and -
the like and im feel,, no im Sure, that those comments -- the genuine ones from his teammates, his best friends, His Favorite People (about his favorite activity) -- mean more to him than the ones about the [girls] ever did. bokuto genuinely valued (and still does) his - and -
teammates and though its not shown explicitly its highly probable, basically canon honestly, that they are the ones who helped him overcome his mood swings and emo modes (as show in [this] panel) bc he recognizes that they coddle(d) him, that they babied him in a way, and -
catered to him. he realizes that not everyone is going to do the same, that when he goes pro its likely theyll just bench him and sub someone else in as opposed to doing what his old teammates did and wait for him to come to his senses: really it comes down to "he's not going -
to be as valuable when he goes pro." and honestly its so delicious for his character i love furudate's mind. fukurodani helped bokuto to mature and become a better "ace." he knows hes no longer "fukurodanis ace," that the infamous mood swings of "fukurodani's ace" are long gone -
that High School is long gone and memories are something to (positively) reminisce about but they arent actually something to dwell on as he Had. its such a good change and one for the better, and just Imagine how Different bokuto would be if he still Had those mood swings; -
would he have been selected for the black jackals as a whole? its not something we can honestly know and its not something we Need to. furudate gave us development, and a good one at that, and im literally such a sucker for good character development its not even funny. and ugh -
furudate dont even get me started i really could say so much about their skill in narratives, in storytelling, in layouts, in themes, but lets go with their use of recalls/callbacks rn.
furudate uses recalls so often in their work and i love it so much: the chapter titles, the banners, the quotes, etc. the aforementioned line was called back multiple times in [these] panels, though some more directly than others, and just emphazises that bokuto doesnt cling to -
the past or to smth he cant fix anymore, that he doesnt see the need to, that hes really just "no more emo modes and mood swings, society has evolved past the need for emo modes and mood swings" similarly, it shows in [these] plays as well that hes matured and changed his -
ideals(?) and playing style. had it been high school and he had been told it was out on his own fault/mistake, he may have been dejected, maybe even regressed into an emo mode, wouldve told akaashi/atsumu to not give him any more tosses, maybe even forgotten how to do a certain -
shot (in this case, a line shot) like he had before, but he passed it off with a mere "aw :( it was out?" and opted to use something that is tried, true, and is a signature move for him: the "ultra cross shot". and sure yeah, maybe he wouldnt have been dejected by it at all in -
high school but its not a guarantee that he wouldnt have been. we've seen firsthand the even the littlest things can cause him to become upset. but this,,,, this shows development, improvement. here we have the reassurance that he wouldnt have done so, that he is "just an ace." -
this moment especially shows that he doesnt have the same weaknesses that he used to, that the list of them akaashi had compiled, memorized, and found ways to combat, dont apply to him anymore. its not stated directly, so its easy to miss really, but he doesnt have any Mental -
weaknesses like he used to. he'll have physical ones ofc, things that he cant do that others can, but its the mental ones that show hes improved and grown so much. theres a flashback in 392 (the bokuto-focused chapter) that shows that he blamed himself for losing a point, for -
costing them nationals, and he doesnt blame them for it despite having a chance to (see konoha blaming himself for not reaching the ball in time), despite it being His Last High School Year, his last chance at nationals; no instead he blames it on himself. the rest of them -
convince him to think otherwise, that it wasnt on him, that despite all the hardships they went through dealing with him, he was Their ace, he was still an ace, and he was still an incredible spiker -- and he Is, he really is.

volleyball's a team sport, and bokuto realizes -
