The more resources I make the more angry/sad I get by the state of UK textbooks. Standards are so low. Explanations barely exist. Textbooks skirt over explicitly teaching the hard stuff with absolute clarity. An insufficient number of questions to allow consolidation. [1/n]
Then whenever I lack knowledge on a certain topic and I refer to textbooks (a) there is nothing there (b) it's there but its awfully explained with poor questions to follow. [2/n]
If a teacher goes to a textbook for help then they are beyond disappointed. It seems what matters is producing content that fits into the fewest number of pages, fancy colour styles and icons. [3/n]
The best textbooks around the world are huge, printed in black ink on white paper. Who cares about the coloured pictures if the content is inadequate? [4/n]
What makes it worse is that there is absolutely NO interleaving between concepts. Genuinely absurd! You miss out so much of the subject that way. Why you may ask? [5/n]
There is no interleaving because it would be harder to teach assuming pupils have retained knowledge from previous learning experiences. If anything, those interleaving exercises are even more important because it helps pupils retrieve prior knowledge. [6/n]
This came off after attempting some A level resourcing and being unable to explain a probability statement, and finding nothing in a popular UK A level maths textbook.

Rant over. Bedtime. I might regret this in the morning - be kind to me. [7/7]
