Thread: The Bills selected Dawson Knox in the 3rd round of the 2019 draft despite minimal production in college, I have to admit I love the way this kid plays ball. I’m pumped to see if he can take the next step and develop into the TE1 the Bills are looking for
The Bills loved using Knox’s speed & size on these intermediate crossing routes into space. When the defender is giving that much of a cushion it’s hard to make up ground & gain positioning on someone as big & as fast as Knox. Knox ran a 4.57 40 at his pro day
The knock on Knox coming out of college was his lack of production, he had limited usage at Ole Miss. He has the athleticism and raw skill set but it remains to be seen if he can correct some of these easy drops
Knox sees everything is well covered & the play is breaking down. Good job of making himself available to his QB and converting the 1st down after the catch
The drops are a definite concern, I don’t want to beat a dead horse but if he’s going to be the long term answer for the Bills, which he’s more than capable of, these need to be cleaned up
Knox plays football the way it’s supposed to be played at the TE position. You are never going to see him shy away from contact. He absolutely embarrassed the entire Bengals secondary with the game on the line
Absolutely absurd contested catch & body control on this play. Chung is all over him, and despite falling he’s able to contort his body midair and hang onto the ball. For every one of his drops he seemed to have a ridiculous circus-like catch
Check out Knox’s route running in the open field. He releases outside, turns the corners hips then stems back inside, boxes out the DB and comes down with the reception up the seam. Pretty good for a guy that only had 39 receptions his entire college career
Allen is hit while throwing, delivers a good ball. As a TE in the NFL you’re need to come down with some of these contested catches. You can’t make all of them, but by nature TE’s won’t always be able to separate, the QB needs to be confident in their ability to come down with it
Knox plays like an absolute wrecking ball
Knox makes his way up the seam, takes a shot and is still able to hang on. This is an absolute rifle of a throw between 3 defenders (check out the last angle)
I like everything you see from Knox up until the drop here. Daboll splits him out wide vs man coverage. He wins off the line, keeps his eyes on the ball, has a subtle push off to separate, & makes the adjustment to the ball. Feel like he got in his own head on some of these
The Bills loved running this route on teams that blitzed heavily. They often left the middle of the field wide open. Knox has the athleticism to turn this into a bigger gain after the catch
The Browns come out in cover 4 which leaves the LB picking up Knox on the intermediate route. Schobert just doesn’t have the juice to run with Knox – good chunk play vs zone coverage
Knox has a mean stiff arm. Feels like half the time he’s running with the ball in his hands he planting a defender on the ground
Similar play to earlier, easy pitch and catch that he’s able to turn into a 21 yd gain. He can move for a big guy
All-out blitz, same concept. Knox makes a man miss and takes it to the house. He’s so slippery & strong after the catch, makes him hard to tackle in the open field. You'd think w/ Diggs / Brown / Beasley, he’s going to have a lot more room to run in this year’s offense
Lol if you’re not ready to tackle him you’re gonna get tossed
You want to get an idea of his physicality / athleticism? Check out this route (2nd man up from the bottom half of your screen). Jimmy Smith tries to get his hands on Knox and gets tossed aside and burned. He ends up getting bailed out on an Allen overthrow
3rd & 7, love the route he runs to get open, but the drop ends up being a drive killer at a critical moment in the game
Absolutely insane catch. Knox is an absolute blast to watch. It’s head scratching/encouraging that some of his easiest passes were dropped, and some of his hardest were caught
Knox out muscles Chung off the line to get outside leverage. Knox had some drops work against his stat line, but he also won on some deep routes that Allen just plain missed on. This throw ends up being the difference between a touchdown and a FG on 3rd down
Ridiculous catch, even better throw. Look at Knox burst up the seam, adjust through traffic, & track the ball while it’s in the air
Tbh I don’t think Chung can hang with Knox. We’ll see if I’m right this yr, if Belichik puts Kyle Dugger on him. This ends up being the missed throw but, watch this route. You can tell Chung isn’t expecting the out breaking route & Knox is able to plant and burst to the corner
Arm tackling isn’t gonna work on Knox
