This chapter was such a satisfying end to Toji’s character arc. It really made me want to talk about Toji’s mentality, why he does what he does & his treatment of Megumi
From the beginning, Toji is expected not to do well in the Zen’in family. Seeing as he has no cursed energy, he isn’t seen as special & this probably carried with him throughout his lifetime, somewhat like Maki. The family see people with inherited cursed techniques as favorable
Growing up this way, Toji probably had a lot of internalized self-doubt & more than likely viewed himself as “lesser” than a cursed technique user in this family
In his battle vs Geto & Gojo, he referred to cursed technique users as people with “blessings.” Basically insinuating he had no “blessings” due to the conditioning of the Zen’in family.
The beautiful part about Toji naming Megumi is that Toji himself never considered he could have blessings because he was born with no cursed energy. He named his son this because he considered Megumi to be his one and only blessing
Toji took on his wife’s name, basically erasing any connection he had with the esteemed Zen’in family. And although he hated the family and wanted to destroy it, this almost is him subconsciously admitting to himself he wasn’t good enough to be in the family.
In my opinion, Toji was willing to give up his son because he didn’t feel like he was good enough to raise him since Toji viewed Megumi as a blessing & Toji views himself as someone who is unworthy of blessings/the family. Also why he chose the path of not being proud of anything
Toji assumed he would take the name Zen’in since it’s natural for anyone who has an inherited curse technique to be wanted in the family. He is proud Megumi didn’t have the Zen’in name he abandoned. Most of all though, he didn’t want to fight his son. Chapter was beautiful
