Keyakizaka46 Costume Thread 🌳

This will be a slow-moving thread, but the goal is to have an archive all of Keyaki's costumes with translations from official magazine articles. I am also cross-posting on Stage48 where I have more details and an index:

First off, here is a small compilation of pre-debut and debut era uniforms (2015-2016) that were featured in magazines. These are taken from Naver Matome which is to be shut down later this year, so I have an album archiving everything here:

We were first introduced to Keyakizaka46's first generation on August 21, 2015 on the 4th anniversary of Nogizaka's announcement. This was also the date when they announced that the group's name will be changed from "Toriizaka46" to Keyakizaka46.

Keyaki's "Omitekai" Fan Meetings took place a few months later on November 14, 2015. For this event the girls wore dark green cardigans with either a red or green plaid skirt with matching bows.
Unlike future uniforms, these were not custom-made, but they were actually purchasable at a uniform store called CONOMi!

Pre-Debut Uniform (2015)

And finally we get to Keyaki's first set of custom uniforms. The grey jackets came in blazers for the senior members and collarless jackets for juniors. Neru of course had her own Hiragana version!

Seifuku no Mannequin @ FNS (2015) / Yamanotesen (2016)

For Keyaki's first live TV performance, they performed Seifuku no Mannequin on FNS Song Festival with Nogizaka and AKB.
Techi also wore this costume for Yamanotesen Live (no patch in MV though)

Silent Majority Uniform (2016)

The ubiquitous military-style uniforms. If you know Keyaki, you know this uniform. Open the first two scans for interviews with the designer and members to hear their perspectives!

The uniforms between the junior and senior members differ with the trimming on the chest panel- juniors have a gold trim, while seniors had a dark green trim. (Neru had her own dark blue Hiragana costume)

There is also a "summer" iteration of the uniform with short sleeves.
Silent Majority Song Costume @ JAM x natalie Expo 2016

Looking at the magazine scan for the SaiMajo uniform, you may notice another costume on the page- A monochromatic dress with an abstract print on it! The print is of an actual building- the Shibuya Hikarie.
Judging by the So-En interview, it seems that this dress was considered to become the performance costume for SaiMajo at one point, but it never came to be.

Te wo Tsunaide Kaerou ka? (2016)

A simple seifuku with a monogrammed cursive "K" securing a light blue ribbon. We haven't seen this one outside the video & Keyakise as far as I'm aware!

Sekai ni wa Ai Shika Nai (2016)

Probably the most beautiful example of the "skirt hem" effect- they all line up perfectly, so that that you have a navy line across all the members skirts!

Shibuya Kara PARCO ga Kieta Hi (2016)

For Techi's second solo, she donned a surprisingly mature bright red iridescent suit.
Although it is quite simple, the song and outfit matches perfectly. PARCO is an iconic Shibuya store (akin to 109) built in 1973 and was a popular place-
for young people during the late Showa era. So the song was sonically influenced by the 80s.

In 2016, the building was to be closed for renovations until 2019. So when Techi sings about meeting again as an adult, the line is quite literal!
She was 15 when she sang it, and would be 18 when the building would see its reopening. Hence, the adult-like costume for this song. (Also the sleeves are striped which is unexpected!)

Futari Saison (2016)

The autumn-colored dress that perfectly suits a song about the seasons! The design was inspired by trench coats, but altered to fit Keyaki's style.

How did the costumes differ between the junior and senior members?

Your answer is on the sleeves! For the junior members, the grey check pattern continues onto the backside of the sleeves, while the senior members have completely solid-colored sleeves.
And for the dress' lining, you have a bright red fabric that you could see glimpses of during the Saison dance.

The designer was looking to achieve the "Matador" look with this (best exemplified by Mon on the way right)
Otona wa Shinjitekurenai (2016)

This grey Takarazuka uniform-inspired costume has both a futuristic, yet retro feel.

For those who aren't aware of what Takarazuka is:
"The Takarazuka Revue is a Japanese all-female musical theater troupe based in Takarazuka, Hyƍgo Prefecture, Japan."

The uniforms for its storied academy was the inspiration for this costume.
FNS Song Festival 2016

This royal blue Napoleonic jacket-inspired costume is embroidered with silver threaded Keyaki (Zelkova) tree leaves.

NTV Halloween Performance 2016

One of two special Halloween performances Keyaki did during their busy debut year! This one is a bloody take on their "Kataru Nara Mirai wo..." outfits, with a bright green patch on their arms. They also performed with Pikotaro at this event
