THREAD ALERT

I have thought about relocating from Uganda for a while. Yes it is the pearl of africa and the politicians will tell you it is a good place to stay but it takes a lot of energy to stay in this country. I shall explain why
Here, when you build a house, you MUST include 2 water tanks one for storing water from @nwscug and the other for harvesting storm water. Know why? Because despite the fact that we have the largest fresh water body in the world, it’s common to go without running water for weeks!
Reason? Because a contractor cut the mains and @nwscug is waiting for them to fix the issue. Yes, for a week and still counting. When the water in both tanks runs out, you have to spend 130K to buy water to fill the tanks!
Same goes for electricity. When you build a house, you MUST put a provision for a solar system because @UmemeLtd can not guarantee constant supply of power for 24h. Somehow there is always a fault on the line. Want to work from home? You must have backup power!
That is on top of the fact that we, in Uganda where the mighty river Nile starts from pay one of the highest price per kilowatt hour in the world! The supplied current is so irregular and unstable that you must buy a fridge guard for you to get a warrant!
Despite the fact that we pay over 30% of our earnings as PAYE, one also has to pay handsomely to get their child good enough education and medical care. The public facilities are awful and in very shambolic state.
The same people supposed to plan better for us are the ones that push us off the same narrow roads that are as a result of their poor planning. They do this in cars that we the taxpayers have bought for them.
Want to have a decent school and hospital built near your home by govt? Pray that the president to declare your home a district! That’s that only way you get electricity extended as well. And you had better elect an MP that agrees with the president
If you want to buy a reconditioned car (because new ones are a reserve of govt), @URAuganda will determine the value of the car for you even if you show proof of payment.
