@FPMRS @SocietyPelvic @IUJ_BlueJournal @jfitzgeraldMD @dramypark @DrJenGunter @FionaMattatall @DrJAhmad and colleagues publish the following. It highlights that gynecologists aren& #39;t considered surgeons. 1/
It also either highlights that zero research was done in preparation for this paper, OR we as a WHOLE SUBSPECIALTY have failed to be known in our medical circles @erinbrennand 2/
How can we collaborate instead of working in silos to help women? For example, @FPMRS has a special interest group for #cosmeticsurgery
The whole paper can be found here. Is the problem that women with these needs are not being referred? Are being turned away from #gynecology? At the least this warrants a discussion 4/ https://academic.oup.com/asjopenforum/article/1/4/ojz030/5587748">https://academic.oup.com/asjopenfo...
In the paper it does say to refer to gyn if there is a rectocele or pelvic organ prolapse. But the surgery they describe IS step by step the treatment for prolapse...And are the pelvic floor muscles assessed pre-op? The rates of dyspareunia can be up to 30%! @NicoleCozeanDPT
@DrCMcDermott this tells me there is a Canadian context disconnect between #urogyn and plastic surgery.
