I'm not interested anymore in watching shows without diverse or queer rep. I barely have time to do my laundry, I'm not wasting my time on things that make me mad or sad.
I'm tired of white male showrunners/writing rooms getting credit for doing the bare minimum -- and often cynically, at that. There's still a lot of work to do behind the scenes, and unfortunately, knowing how the sausage was made often skewers my perspective on a series itself.
Even if other find it delightful. And it's ok to find things delightful! You should. It's already hard to do. It's just difficult to lose myself in the actual storytelling if I know the elements that went into it were hypocritical or don't practice what they preach "in house".
There are also SO many white, male showrunners and writing rooms who are working and fighting tirelessly to encourage and promote diversity -- esp. in #cdntv. Good people exist from all background and opportunities. And I have the privilege to call many of them friends.
Which makes my tolerance for proprietary, selfish, gate-keeping egomaniac ding dongs ever lower. Silver lining: they're scared right now that we're coming for them. 'Cause we are.
To clarify: this is not a subtweet about the show (not genre) you think it is. It's about garbage people behind the scenes. P.S. Genre TV is always ahead of the curve, even when they still struggle and are learning, as we all are.
