Brexit travel update:

All EU nationals can enter Hungary with no restrictions at all for tourism, business, whatever.

UK nationals, even if they live, work and pay tax in Hungary and are arriving from a country with low Covid rates, cannot.
UK nationals have to apply for special police permission to enter, even if you have residency and - like me - official foreign ministry journalist accreditation.

I applied a week ago for police permission to enter today and the request was acknowledged but not answered.
It's an inexplicable rule from Hungary, but also seems like a sign of how things are going to be for holders of Brexit British passports in the coming months and years.
It's going to cause countless problems for hundreds of thousands of UK nationals living in EU countries and deprive millions more of opportunities in future. All of which makes this kind of triumphal messaging around it even sadder. [End of rant]
