“Modi is in Ladakh, but where was Nehru and his cohorts?”

A thread to set history right.

🔹 Backdrop —

On 20 September 1962, a Chinese soldier lobbed a grenade at our men. Shooting ensued in which 2 Chinese were killed and 5 Indians injured. War clouds were dense.
Also, in 1959, two incidents happened that involved Chinese troops attempting to kidnap our soldiers, and in another 17 of our men were killed and many injured.

Ever since 1959 it was clear that China would ingress. In fact, clear warnings to the government had been given.
🔹 Nehru —

At the time of the September incident, the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru wasn’t in India. That’s fine. What is appalling is despite the tensions he returned from his trip to Africa on 3 October, almost two weeks later!
War had begun with India severely on the backfoot at Nam Ka Chu. The direction of the war was becoming clear. It was now that Nehru made a visit to Sri Lanka! He made a stopover at Madras where he grandiosely announced about ‘throwing out the Chinese from our territory’.
🔹CGS Kaul and DM Krishna Menon —

Kaul – the most powerful man in Army HQ in Delhi and a favourite of Nehru - was vacationing in Kashmir at the time of the September incident!

DM Krishna Menon returned from New York on 30 September.
The crux being that the 3 most important men were either out of India or vacationing when China was acting as the aggressor.

Compare this to how PM Modi, the CDS and the COAS are in the thick of the things reviewing the situation and supporting troops.
We could condone the absense of Nehru and his favourite two if the armed forces had a plan, equipment, and freedom to act. But they had none.

The undeniable fact is - and you’d hear from ‘62 veterans in quite colorful language - that Nehru was responsible for the debacle.
