Anyway, I have a lot of thoughts on the "fae/faer is appropriative" thing as someone who actually believes in the fae *and still thinks the person who started this is full of shit*.
First of all, they& #39;re concerned with whether or not it& #39;s "disrespecting their religion" (they think it is), but they fail to consider that, for many people, the use of fae/faer is definitely tied to their own religious practices.
I considered using fae/faer (but didn& #39;t for reasons I& #39;ll get into) and, if I had, it would& #39;ve been a *deeply religious thing*. How is it that people need to stop doing it to respect her religion but people who& #39;s religion it is can& #39;t do it themselves?
Secondly, we don& #39;t get how this is appropriative or disrespectful. If an atheist or pagan is named "Christian" or "Jesús", even if they chose it as a non-christian, is that also disrespectful or appropriative? No, obviously not. And this is not all that different from fae/faer.
Thirdly, this is something *I have thought about at length* and have *a bunch of thoughts on* and basically none of them align with "fae/faer hurts pagans" because they don& #39;t, but, like, that this is her concern makes me wonder if she even actually believes in the fae.
Because, like, fae/faer is potentially dangerous because the use of them could very well draw the attention of the fae. Which isn& #39;t necessarily a bad thing, but is a very risky thing. And, if you& #39;re concerned about harm from fae/faer, why is this not your first concern?
Like, this is no reason not to use fae/faer as a form of gender expression. Basically all forms of gender expression outside of the cisnormative binary are risky. But you absolutely should be *aware* of the risks you take on.
And, like, those risks are something I thought about at length and the reason I didn& #39;t end up using fae/faer pronouns. It is, to be clear, perfectly fine for you to use them. I just want everyone using them to understand what it could mean to use them.
And if you do believe in the fae and your first concern is "how do fae/faer pronouns effect me" and not "how do they effect the people using them in relation to the fae", either you don& #39;t take the fae seriously enough or you don& #39;t give a shit about the people using the pronouns.
And, like, neither of those options are great. Either this person doesn& #39;t give a shit about non-binary people or this person has never considered how their actions would effect their relations with the fae which is honestly very dangerous for them.
And, despite their shittiness, I do hope they take the fae seriously because I don& #39;t want harm to come to them from bad relations with the fae.
