The first picture is a bust of the Goddess Aphrodite, her nose cut off & a cross branded on the forehead. The 2nd is a bust of Germanicus Julius Caesar, son of Nero Claudius.

Once Rome fell to Christianity, these busts were vandalized by Christians bc they were seen as idols.
Symmachus, one of the last Roman Patricians who followed the Roman Gods, part of the last pagan generation of Rome said once––

"We see the same stars, the sky is shared by all, the same world surrounds us. What does it matter what wisdom a person uses to seek for the truth" ?
but right here lies the reason and the difference.
