It’s been a busy few weeks where ‘tweeting’ has sadly taken second (or even third or fourth place!) We are going to get a bulletin out to members next week where we will give our current position, in the mean time and for non members:
Recovery - We have never experienced 1/8
a moment in time where our organisation has come together as it has now to move out of lockdown. It can’t be rushed, those baiting and pushing for more really should now better, we get one chance of navigating through the unknown, is it wrong to do it 8safely and controlled? 2/8
For those who are living through ‘EDM’s and Readiness Assessments’ We feel your pain! We’ve had it easy, but put on record that the authors of our EDM’s, our Governors and their teams should be applauded for their extraordinary hard work they are putting in, we are humbled 3/8
Overcrowding, we continue to be impressed with HMPPS’s approach to reducing overcrowding and more importantly to support ‘cohorting’ There has been significant reductions in op.cap across the estate to allow cohorting, we remain concerned that when court activity ramps up 4/8
increases in demand will remove the increased headroom that currently exists. We continue to call on government to use its influence to reduce the demands on the finite capacity in the prison estate, trust us we’ll not let the country down (we’ve not done too bad up to now 5/8
In finishing off this tweet, we applaud all colleagues across HMPPS for all their exceptional work during COVID, we are a 24/7 organisation and over recent weeks it’s felt like we’ve been delivering 48/14 outcomes.
Then there are those who criticise the leaders of HMPPS 6/8
and question the leadership of governors, we ask that you wait until the after the crisis is over before you take cheap shots at the people who are sat in the big chair. It’s easy to second guess, demand and give informed views after the event, it’s harder in real time 7/8
Our shout out tonight goes to ‘HMPPS’ especially those governors who have taken up thier commands during COVID #HiddenHeroes #onehmpps 8/8
