At what point do we as journalists stop giving cover to bad people by credulously covering their surprise that Trump is racist or that yet another anonymous White House staffer is appalled but isn’t quitting or that Ivanka is trying to mitigate things behind the scenes?

The real story is they’re afraid of losing power. When they had power, they didn’t care what Trump said. That is the objective reality. Reporting people’s excuses for themselves is not.
