sigh...im seeing a lot of other stans confuse noise pop with just pure genre-blending 😅 other groups have definitely been experimental before NCT, we're not trying to take away from any them (at least i wasnt in my article). But the literal use of noise pop is 127's trademark
a lot of other groups/song that have been mentioned: f(x), 4minute, i got a boy....those are considered to be experimental pop or electropop. Experimental pop in particular is what leans more towards avant-garde, but still never fully lends itself to the noise and disruption
"Experimental pop is rooted in existing popular forms, but stretches the use of these popular forms" which is literally how people describe K-pop in general, especially 2nd gen K-pop
Now if experimental pop was 30% avant-garde, then noise pop is a whole 50% mixed with distorted guitars and drones, but still use some kind of conventional pop elements. The best example of this would be Kick It - that guitar is everything
and as for Monsta X, there really isn't much of any of these 3 genres in their music, as far as I know. Everything I've listened to and even researched describes them mostly as a blend of hip-hop, trap, R&B, and EDM, which I would agree with.
In my article, I literally say that k-pop is specifically known for blending and mixing genres and that's what makes it so fun different, sometimes difficult for people to get into lol it never really stays in one place for too long
Anyway, i just wanted to shed a little light on some of the differences since I stan so many others besides NCT, but respect all groups pls ❀ and if you're an nctzen or just curious about 127's sound, here's the link to the full article! :) http://kultscene.com/nct-127s-growth-from-the-1st-mini-album-through-neo-zone/
