Do you know about menstrual cups? Let's start a conversation in this thread.
Sanitary napkins or pads are made with a lot of chemicals including plastic. It causes irritation, rash and can also be toxic. Same problems with tampons. These pads take between 500 to 800 years to degrade in the environment. Each woman uses 10-15 pads per period which adds up.
Pads are hazardous for the environment and also for the Safai Sathis who sort through our waste. It can cause deaths because the soaked blood can be infectious. This doesn't mean menstrual blood is impure. But leaving any blood/tissue outside for long can cause infections.
I get it, it is scary to think of putting something inside. But it is definitely something you need to consider. But take that first step. It is worth it.

I will be making a video on this sometime in the future, but till then, watch different YouTube videos, read blogs. Cups are eco friendly, save water and freeing. The hassle of leaks or stains is close to ZERO on the cup. I've used it for 1 period and I am sold!
Cups can come in different sizes and have to be inserted inside the woman's body. Once inserted, it acts like a cup that collects blood + tissue that comes out during a period. This blood+tissue is 100% normal, has no strong smell and is not infectious.
The alternative to this is menstrual cups.Cups are made of medical grade silicone. This is the same material that is used for medical implants.Generally, this is FDA certified (you should check for this before buying a cup) This material doesn't absorb anything. It only collects.
This cup can be inserted inside and has to be emptied every 6 to 8 hours depending on your menstrual flow. Day 1,2 you may have to empty it more often. Day 4 or so, you can keep it for 12 hours before emptying it.
This is perhaps the best product for women, ever.
Using a cup will get you so close to your body. You will understand how your body works, how it is built, you'll realize you may not bleed as much as you think, and you will feel empowered because you can sleep problem free. And men, time to demystify periods. It's no big deal.
