An interesting experience visiting the UK is to walk through a cathedral over the barely legible inscriptions on the floor about people buried there. Once they were so important to be lain in such a prominent place. Now you can’t even read their name & tourists scuffle over them.
These influential people expected to be remembered, yet just like the poor people who built their great monuments, they are forgotten with the passage of time.
I’m not saying we should let monuments just fade into the past, rather than be removed. Just thinking about our persistent need to continue to build monuments and statues.
Finishing this thread, just a note that Nelson’s Column is Trafalgar Square is covered with pigeon mess most of the time. Something more to ponder...đŸ€”
