When the chorus of “we need your voice” is louder than the chorus of

“What does your body need?”
or
“I’m here if you need a break.”
or
“How can I join you in this work?”
or
*no words just actions*

You’re in the wrong company, period.
From now on, I’m responding to “we need your voices” comments with “We need your choices.”

Elevating people of color while maintaining complicity is still abusing black bodies.

If I’m part of leading conversations that result in little to no action, I’m as good as dead.
At the moment I am not coming alive in spaces where people say “thank you for your voice.”

I’m coming alive when I see friends I’ve poured into making moves without my directive.

I don’t need or want thank you for saying words that move hearts but not feet.
I’ve been tired since January when I started a course load of classes on racism in the church and in Christian history. In leadership and in ideology.

And even before then.

I don’t feel good being thanked for doing what I have to do to survive.
“We need your voice“

Well, I need your choice. Make better choices.
