I'm choosing my words carefully.

1) This week there was a widely publicised case of an Asian girl going missing. We don't know full details yet.

2) Some say she was trying to escape family abuse over having a black boyfriend.

3) Family 'honour-based abuse' is a real issue.
4) When an organisation like Sikh Youth UK - known for outright bigotry, misleading people, violence and unprofessionalism (are they DBS checked?!) - is involved, then stay the fuck away from that campaign.

It is run by grifters and should not be near vulnerable women.
5) When someone has gone missing then highlight police appeal. Tell the police not the family you found them.

6) Many Asian women who work on honour-based violence have raised red flags in past about how these appeals are done.

This is not an uncommon problem in our communities
7) In many cases, Asian women are afraid to raise their voice in fear of being attacked by religious groups. Their voices are silenced in this debate.

8) Many Sikh groups (not just SYUK) have stoked up paranoia about "those men grooming our girls" - for years. This is fallout
9) If in doubt, speak to and listen to groups run by Asian women!

Patriarchy and sexism in our communities is so bad that people would rather listen to and fund groups run by Asian men on how to 'protect women' - than listen to women directly.
10) Lastly I emphasize again I don't know full details in that recent case so I've not named names.

But next time there is such an appeal on social media please think twice.
11) I should highlight excellent Asian women orgs working against honour violence!
