A little reminder today for all those going to restaurants & pubs... (A THREAD)
1. If you have booked somewhere, TURN UP, because right now every cover counts when restaurants are operating at 60/70% capacity (or less for some). Doing a no-show is always wrong but right now it's pretty heartless.
2. BE KIND, to the hospitality teams. Remember this is likely to be their first day back at work & everything is different. The menus have changed, there is new safety guidance to follow and their team may be smaller due to the limited space.
..
...They are also likely to be on a double shift, too busy for breaks, all weekend, which means 13-15 hrs on your feet, twice in a row. Some businesses have cut their staff salaries too, so not only are they working harder but earning less. Which leads me on to my third point...
3. TIP GENEROUSLY. Part of hospitality staff salaries come from the service charges we, the public, pay. And when the lockdown happened this wasn't covered by the governments furlough scheme so people were effectively earning 50% not 80% of their usual salary...
...So if you're in a position to eat out, don't forget to tip and help people pay their rent, mortgages and bills.
Finally... now is not the time to leave negative feedback on TripAdvisor... If something is wrong, politely (this bit is important) inform the manager on duty and let them put it right, don't be a coward and moan online afterwards...
...Give the industry a bit or slack, or maybe if you can't help yourself... just stay at home.
