Getting a tiny bit tired of people claiming Sweden is aiming for ”herd immunity”. We are not. That has NEVER been the strategy. There’s pleny of information about the measures taken to slow down the spread #Sweden. I will during my #covid shift today give you some help finding it https://twitter.com/abbeydiaz_says/status/1279269311270404098
Before I start listing the different measures taken, I would like to point to the fact that all measures are based on the legal framework we have, and that is underlying the Swedish Communicable Diseases Act. Within that framework emphasis is put on INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY. ->
And, I am not a lawyer, and therefore not familiar with the terminology. If I get the wording wrong, I apologize.
Translation: The overarching strategy to address covid-19 in Sweden is to reduce mortality and morbidity throughout the population, and to minimize other negative consequences on individuals and society."->
First recommendation:
"Stay at home if you feel unwell" Makes sense. Sounds pretty straight forward. But what about people who cannot afford to stay at home, who will be fired if they have more than x number of sick days, etc? ->
Normally, in Sweden, your employer is bound by law to pay 80% of your salary for the first 2 wks of your sick leave. There is a qualifying period of one day that is not re-embursed. You do not need a doctors note for the first two weeks when you are ill. ->
After 2 wks the government pays your sick pay, and you will need a doctors note to remain on sick leave beyond 2 wks. ->
From the start of the pandemic, the qualifying period was removed, the government took over responsibility to pay for the entire period on sick leave, AND they extended the 2 wks when you do not need a doctors note, to 3 wks. ->
That means, if you woke up one morning, had a soar throat, you could stay at home, keep your salary, although somewhat reduced, without having to contact a physician for an assessment. The government pays. How's that for a public health intervention? ->
