It's interesting that the common wisdom of post-apocalyptic fiction is that human connection is a weakness that will get you killed whereas we evolved towards altruism because it provides benefits towards survival as a species.

Also altruism is found throughout nature so it's not just a strength for humans but living things generally.

I think there's a lot of toxic tough guy BS that comes from that kind of bad thinking. Like the whole Alpha Male notion in wolves which is so flawed that the scientists who came up with it rejected it.

Also misusing Darwinism for Social Darwinism. So much philosophical bunk to dress up selfishness as scientific.
