1. There’s been reasonable resistance to the analogy, but Trump’s speech, with the NYT’s response, does cast the 2020 election squarely in a 1968 mold: then as now the political left excused, endorsed, and even organized (see: Community Action Program) violent riots…
2. … and pursued (what the right saw as) an authoritarian regime of PC thought-control, both undertaken in the name of Social Justice. The main reason voters went Republican was their promise to stand the violence down and restore law and order.
3. Tonight, Trump cast the election in this same mold: I will, and they will not, stand up to this violence and authoritarianism.

“The radical ideology attacking our country advances under the banner of social justice but in truth it would demolish both justice & society...
4. "It would turn our free & inclusive society into a place of repression, domination & exclusion."
6. So is Trump, as the NYT claims, “increasingly disconnected” from most Americans’ concerns, or is it rather the NYT in assuming most Americans agree that Trump’s left is a “straw man” and are unmoved by “cancel culture” worries?
7. To me, this is the question of whether America’s eyes are or are not open. #Trump2020
