Have lived (briefly, as a child) and now work in housing commission area as a GP. People are incredibly strong: but this is a hard hit, to many already vulnerable people. Strong police presence is worrying: many v scared of police. Understandably. #COVID19Aus
A reminder to @VictoriaPolice that you are there to serve, kindly and compassionately, a population of Australians who have it tough. Be respectful, always, even if people are agitated, distressed or difficult to understand.
I would hate to be entirely locked down with my kids in a tiny flat, with stressed out family members. Please remember that poverty is intertwined with mental and physical illness. Restricting freedoms may exacerbate that.
Lockdowns are NOT punitive, and they must not feel like punishment. Victoria has a responsibility to care for our dependent citizens. That means food, water, nourishment, care. How can we ensure that rainbows and teddies abound in the places that need them most? #kindnesspandemic
Please, @DanielAndrewsMP think abkut deploying social workers, nurses, food distributors, child carers, doctors, too.
I am very worried about this development.
