So it's July 3rd, almost July 4th and we're now 3 months from the election. I just watched Hamilton and am listening to the Hamilton Mixtape. I'd like to pose a parallel. One of the songs on the mixtape is about Valley Forge (1/x) #HamiltonFilm #IndependenceFromTrump

Given our current President and all the challenges the US currently faces I'd submit that we are in a rhetorical Valley Forge.

"These are the times that try men's souls" could just as well have been written about where we find ourselves today. (2/x)

This too could've been written about today. Whether it's people spouting their "liberties" as a reason not wear a mask or GOP politicians flouting science and humping the flag for a culture war. (4/x)

"Congress, I beg of you, justify your existence. Are you men or just a bunch xxxxxx infants? Unite these, give them stakes in our resistance. Do you have no influence at all, you fucking skinflints?"

This is aimed mostly at GOP in the Senate who bow at the altar of Trump (5/x)

Your silence on every matter of important over the last 3.5 years will damn you for eternity in the eyes of history. You had a chance to finally show backbone when the impeachment trial came to you earlier this year but you failed your test of honor. (6/x)

And now on top of the normal voter suppression, purges, disenfranchisement, closing of voting locations, and barriers to the voting booth that we expect in every election from the GOP they've added attacking vote-by-mail on top of that during a pandemic (7/x)

This will be the most important presidential election of our lives. We can only hope that the furious desire of so many people across this country to vote out Trump (whether it be for political, economic, pandemic, fitness, or other reasons) will be able to overcome the barriers.

And while 2020 has been a catastrophic year (which is only half over), "look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now". We have the chance to defeat these people (GOP, Trump), these ideologies (racism, fascism, white supremacy), and come together as a more perfect union.

One of my family members on my mother's side was at Valley Forge. My aunt found a pay receipt while doing an Ancestry. com search. There isn't any info after that. I don't know if they lived, died there, died in combat after, etc. (10/x)

But in our rhetorical Valley Forge we must be willing to put our rhetorical and actual lives on the line to win this "war" on the President and all that he stands for. He is our King George. And while "tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered" (11/x)

With each new poll that comes out makes it look a little more likely that we will conquer his tyranny and our collective hell. I only hope that holds true in November. (12/12)
