The frat did a lot to protect me after this happened to me.

I’d like to talk about why that seems great in theory but it’s actually problematic 😯

Let’s dive in. (A thread)

When ZBT locked the upstairs bedroom/bathroom, they hid the key. Only 4 people knew were it was. Me, 2 bros who lived at the house, & the risk manager.

This is dangerous. While I trust the men who knew the key’s hiding place.. there’s lots of ways this could’ve gone awry.

When I went on ZBT formal the following spring, I was worried bc Arad was also gonna be on the trip (he came in his own car…but ZBT rented a bus…).

An exec man told me they’d be looking out for me the whole time and they’d have their eye on Arad.

What’s the issue? Sounds like they handled things ok?

The issue is — Arad was NOT the only potential assailant in ZBT. And I was NOT the only potential victim.

What about other guys with a similar mindset as Arad (and Guille)?

What about ALL the girls at their events?

We must use sustainable solutions to end rape & sexual assault in #GreekLife. “Protecting” certain srat girls does NOTHING. Frats need consent seminars. Frats need to weed out creeps during pledging. Frats need to foster an environment that’s SAFE for sorority womxn.

While we’re at it, sorority womxn can be coercive too. Womxn can sexually assault men.

AND *gasp* GIRLS CAN ASSAULT EACH OTHER. Not all srat girls are straight!

AND GASP AGAIN. Not all frat men are straight! MEN in Greek life CAN be raped!

Let’s make a consent culture.👏
