Why I Love The Miya Twin& #39;s Relationship– A Very Self Indulgent Thread That& #39;s Been On My Drafts For A Few Days Now
i dont really know where to start with this, so let& #39;s just go with my very first thought which is how well the twins are portrayed as siblings
furudate& #39;s really good at putting these small panels in the manga that showcase details about what kind of siblings these two are and that is: they love messing with each other
we constantly see how easy it is for the two of them to annoy the shit out of each other throughout the manga, but atsumu definitely takes the cake for being the little shit(tm) out of the two, look at that shamelessly (adorable) face he made when he lied abt eating osamu& #39;s food
they bicker like any other siblings about the smallest of things and i just love how furudate made the effort to showcase the readers these small moments between them bc it really makes them feel more real
we& #39;re also shown panels where they just act so in sync and that& #39;s something that happens to me with my sis a lot bc when you live in the same house with someone for a long ass time, you tend to learn to develop with them, possibly having similar thoughts, humour, and interests
While the twins both show very similar love for volleyball, it& #39;s also clear that atsumu is more passionate about it than osamu. He gets into arguments about the game with fellow teammates, he disregards people who cannot play well, and even osamu has stated he loves the game more
This scene in the manga really goes to show how much volleyball means to atsumu, he wants to keep improving. he will not shy away from people who would comprimise his effort and what breakes me here is that people mistake his love and ruthlessness for the game as arrogance
So, let& #39;s finally talk about THAT scene. I would just like to point out how much this made me cry, ok lets go: the whole argument is so well paced and dramatic and i love how this is one of the few scenes we got to see osamu get so rilled up and expressive, obv tsumu is the cause
First and foremost, the argument is a very big deal to the two of them, given that atsumu wants to keep playing volleyball professionally where as osamu is fine with pursuing a different carrer after high school, and what gets me is how much atsumu was affected by this decision
Throughout the manga osamu has shown great interest with food but i would also like to point out that he also loved playing voleyball, otherwise this scene wouldnt be here. He clearly had the drive to work and compete w/ atsumu regarding the game, but with osamu there is a limit
Osamu understands his twin& #39;s love & passion for the game is more than his own and has made the conscious decision to focus on his own passion and interest. which is why this argument is very significant for osamu, he& #39;s ready to turn to a new chapter of his life free of volleyball
Their fight was painful for atsumu, bc not once did he ever consider growing out of valloeyball. He& #39;s had osamu w/ him since the start and had no plans of that ever changing even after graduation, this must have felt like a physical blow to him when osamu broke the news
Im compelled to think that this is also atsumu& #39;s way of "saving" his brother, yes i know it looks more like he& #39;s trying to convince or bargain with osamu to take what he said back and stay with him but let& #39;s look at this in atsumu& #39;s perspective for a bit: he truly loves the sport
He is 100% convinced that volleyball is where they will both be happiest with. He is convinced that osamu& #39;s best interest is with playing the sport and he wants to make sure osamu doesnt make the wrong decision and regret it later on. But osamu knows that& #39;s not the case for him.
I think it& #39;s also desperation in the realization that he& #39;ll be alone after this. There wont be anyone next to him after graduation, he& #39;ll be alone for the first time and that scared him and made atsumu lash out, i mean he wont be loosing just anyone, he& #39;ll be loosing his brother
but that& #39;s also why i believe osamu was thinking about tsumu when he made his decision. he knows he& #39;s reached the end of his love for volleyball and his passion for culinary is more important and if he stayed by tsumu& #39;s side it wouldnt be fair to the two of them
Osamu would comrpimise his love for culinary to shadow his brother& #39;s ambition and Atsumu wouldn& #39;t be able to improve his skill if he kept relying on osamu to always be there for him. Osamu wasnt being selfish, he knows what was best for the two of them when he made his choice.
And what i love about furudate is how we& #39;re shown how these two made up, i just love the fact that atsumu& #39;s more banged up than osamu and how easy it was for them to make up and it& #39;s probably cause they had the time to understand each other& #39;s decision and accept it afterwards.
and as much as i love the idea of osamu sticking to volleyball w/ tsumu, furudate made it a point to show us that their choices were what was best for them to grow and osamu looks happier now that he& #39;s doing what he loves best, and he& #39;s still supoorting his brother in his own way
