#LandBack and the restoration of tribal sovereignty is not synonymous with ethnonationalism. Viewing it as such not only fundamentally misunderstands the political nature of tribal nations, but also erases the experiences of other groups such as Black Indigenous folks.
Tribal nations were complex political articulations and entities, not just groups of people tied together due to ‘ethnic’ similarities. For example, White and Black people married or were otherwise welcomed into Anishinaabe tribes.
This thread is probably old hat to virtually every Indigenous person on here or anyone who understands concepts of tribal sovereignty and nationhood but there’s always people who still conflate Indigenous nationhood along racial lines and I wish they would cut it out.
