In 39 Years of his life(12 Jan 1863-4 July 1902), Swami Vivekananda achieved many things in his life that one can only imagine, but this was a result of immense labor and study.
Today is Swami Vivekananda's 118th Punyatithi.

Narendra Nath Datta, born in a quite wealthy household, in his early years was influenced by western philosophy.
He used to question people of holy reputation if they had seen God, his desire to find the truth was unparalleled.

One day he came across a spiritual Guru named 'Ramkrishna Paramhansa' and he became Narendra's Guru.
Shri Ramkrishna answered all his doubts, guided him on a spiritual path, and transformed Narendra into Swami Vivekananda.

After passing away of his Guru in 1886, Swamiji renounced the world and started traveling all over Bharat finding answers to his questions.
As he traveled from place to place he fell deeply in love with Bharat's diversity and its people and started exploring more and more.

In 1893, he got the opportunity to represent Hinduism in the parliament of religions and his speech got him extremely popular and Hinduism had found a new and strong face representing itself in the world!

His opening words,"“Sisters and brothers of America” had such miraculous strength in them that those thousands gathered stood up and there was continuous applause.
He was welcomed in Bharat after his success in a grand manner

Swami Vivekananda held a lot of respect for the spiritual heritage of Bharat, but he did attack through his speeches its undesirable customs and the abominable caste system. Thus his speeches served as a wakeup call even to the Hindu society.

His ardent appeal stuck lightening in the hearts of his dormant countrymen. His natural state of being would have been to meditate on the formless eternal entity i.e. Nirvikar Samadhi.

Yet he set aside his own renunciation and thought about the mortal struggles, sorrows and joys of common people; throughout his life he strived for their upliftment. ‘Real Sanyasis to sacrifice the self for the betterment of others’ – he lived this axiom.

He passed away on July 4, 1902,after a brief second visit to the West. His lectures and writings have been gathered into nine volumes of his Complete Works.He has written many books that keep inspiring and educating millions of people even today.
