The South Dakota crowd really Goebbeled this up.
I can't stress enough how angry and reactionary this speech is, on a day that celebrates the violent, statue-destroying revolution that birthed the US.
After complaining about how his opponents get history totally wrong, Trump sets the story straight.
The author of American liberty, Thomas Jefferson!
Ok, I won't keep adding clips...but #twitterstorians out there will certainly want to watch this. It's an interesting window into how this administration is seeking to shape our national memory. It's basically an anti-Charles Beard US History textbook ca. 1928.
"The American people will never relinquish the bold, beautiful, and untamed spirit of Theodore Roosevelt."
"Our country is founded on Judeo-Christian values."
"We reject cancel culture," said the President after saying that 55% of his fellow American citizens hate the country and must be fought with every fiber of our being.
"Their goal is to end America," the very anti-cancel culture President just said.
And now he's reciting the lyrics to John Brown's Body...John Brown, the revolutionary who stormed a federal armory to try to end white supremacy. But sure Trump, sure.
The very anti-cancel culture President just referred to all of his opponents as "very bad, evil people."
Ok, now he's enlisting MLK, Jr. in his cause and then 15 seconds later waxed rhapsodic about "our manifest destiny." I simply can't anymore with this.
He just announced the creation of The American Garden of American Heroes. What the heck?
He just said "together we can achieve anything." Anything except dealing with a pandemic?
I can’t believe this is his walk off music.
This song was a scathing indictment of Bush's GOP.
These people are SO TERRIBLE AT EVERYTHING THEY DO. Seriously, they can't even pick music right, or put together a coherent story about the American past.
