A long thread of personal opinion:

My Father and Elder Brother expect me to stand with Them, and those they have chosen as stewards over me. I’ll always stand by the Prophets and Apostles, past and present.
Peter, as the presiding Apostle and President of the ancient Church of Jesus Christ, was given revelation to take the gospel to the Gentiles (Acts 10). He had keys of authority to do as the Lord saw fit.
The Prophet Joseph Smith ordained men to the priesthood like Elijah Abel. Brigham Young said a lot of things about blacks, and he did praise Q. Walker Lewis as “one of the best Elders”. A Priesthood ban was issued out although President Young said a day would come when blacks
“would the privilege and more” just like every other ethnicity.

Advanced theories, along with other restrictions, were put forth to explain the matter, and those matters are not accepted in the Church today.
Restrictions continued despite Church growth in the world, even though people of other races were ordained and allowed to enter the Temple. Many black members wrote to Church headquarters over the years asking when restrictions would be lifted.
Revelation given to the President of the Church was needed on the matter. President David O. McKay prayed and didn’t feel impressed to lift it. On June 1 1978 President Spencer Kimball received revelation from the Savior that the long awaited day had come.
Many of his brethren in the First Presidency and Council of the Twelve were given confirmation from the Lord as well. Elder Haight stated that “each was a witness to a transcendent event” and that “the Spirit touched each of our hearts with the same message”.
Many worthy black men thereafter were ordained to the priesthood and along with women were able to attend the Temple, and many more continue to enjoy the blessings of the Restored Gospel today.
I am grateful for the blessings of the Restored Gospel, and look forward to raising my family in righteousness and truth to the Lord. Racism and hatred of any kind have no place in the world, and especially in the Church.
I may not understand why those restrictions were put in place, but at some future day I know the Savior will make it known. It is the Lords decision to chastise His servants, not ours. I’m cautious of those who’ve been pushing for changes and teachings to be implemented in the
Church. The Lord will do as He sees fit, and will make those changes, not us demanding Him. He will do that under President Russell M. Nelson and those who will come after him.
I know Prophets and Apostles, past and present, are men of the Lord. Correction of them is for Him to decide. I will always stand by the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve until the day I die. I look forward to the day I complete my earthly assignment and return to my
Father and Elder Brother, and those leaders who I defended. The day when I can bask my tears in His hands and kneel with holy reverence for Them. I’ll always defend those who came before. May God our Father and His Son Jesus Christ bless us all!
