Rather, I’m probably just going to chat at you. It’s never too late to change your opinion regarding trans persons.

Let me tell you why this is important. Through your writing, you have been a champion of the underdog, /1

the misunderstood, and the different.

We fell in love with you, your characters, and the world you created. We thought it was a world where good triumphs over evil. Where love conquers all. Where being true to yourself was always the right path. /2

Here’s why we have a problem with your opinion regarding the trans community. I’m not trans, so please forgive me if I don’t convey this correctly, but you tell us to be true to ourselves, but then deny that which trans persons feel is their true selves.

Not only do you deny the trans community what they feel is the essence of their being, you do so publicly, which is the problem and why I’m speaking out.

You’ve probably figure this out by now, but you have influence. Having influence gives you power to change minds and /4

hearts. Already, conservative voices are using your words to bolster their arguments as to why being LGBTQ is wrong. Imagine how young trans persons must feel when their idol says that who the are is wrong. As you are aware, words have consequences. /5

Trans persons are already faced with life threatening discrimination. Documented cases where medical personnel have refused to treat them. Your words help perpetuate this type of discrimination.

Is biology more important than what one feels is their true self? More /6

importantly, why should it matter to anyone other than that person themselves? With all of the struggles we face in life, why be a player in making someone’s life harder?
