Been a while since I tweeted, have been out of the production game for a while, my computer broke last year and then life came up! So why am I tweeting out of the blue?
Saw an email about 5 mins before I sat down to tweet out this thread and wanted tweet about what I’ve learned!
Saw an email about 5 mins before I sat down to tweet out this thread and wanted tweet about what I’ve learned!
The email was from @illGatesMusic and the @ProducerDojo talking about how music is medicine, the more I read the email the more it kind of struck a chord with me!
He got into something @KjSawka said, “Even if you’re only famous to one person, then you’re famous… to that person”
He got into something @KjSawka said, “Even if you’re only famous to one person, then you’re famous… to that person”
This is something I personally should adopt as a motto and these are incredibly powerful words, if you can make a difference in even one persons life it can feel really good!
The part that called to me most in that email was “Imagine how it feels to have someone tell you that your song is their alarm clock.”
A couple years ago (under a different producer name) I made a track and showed it to one of my buddy’s! After some feedback and a few changes I let him listen again!
He loved it enough that he made it his alarm and I’ll be honest it blew me away that anyone would want my track as their alarm!
That track only ever saw 21 plays on SoundCloud and looking back on it the fact that someone had it as their alarm ultimately meant more to me than the play count and it took me reading that email to truly appreciate that fact because
I all too often used to focus on followers and play counts!
Where did that focus get me? Frustrated beyond belief and a desire to quit producing on more than one occasion.

I’ve always loved producing while I do it, I can get lost in it and understanding more of the principles of production is actually somewhat fascinating!
If I’ve pulled off something cool in a track I find myself literally speaking out loud “I fucking love this shit”
If I’ve pulled off something cool in a track I find myself literally speaking out loud “I fucking love this shit”
I also used to be hyper focused on making stuff I thought people would love and going forward I feel it’s worth remembering that if you’re going to make something make it for yourself!
If you like it and it sounded great to you, having even just one person like it will be a bonus and the icing on the cake!
Thinking back I’ve felt far more validated having one personal comment about liking it and using it as their alarm than seeing 21 plays on that same track, which as a newer producer feels like a million plays!
Heck I could choose to feel frustrated that I’m typing this much up and tweeting it out to exactly 0 followers!
But having made some realizations and putting some things about myself in perspective simply reading an email and being excited enough to post about it online to those 0 followers somehow feels more validating in of itself!
I’ve been working on getting myself back into making music on a cheap computer I bought when the pandemic hit and the more I get back into it the more I love it! When I can get my flow back that I lost I look forward to making much more music! Even if only a handful enjoy it!
My ultimate hope is that one day at least one person will read this thread and gain something off of it for themselves, until then I’m going to be happy in the fact that I’ve learned something and can apply it to my own future goals!
One of which is to eventually join the class of 808 when I can give it the focus it deserves and openings become available!
So on that note if you are indeed reading this and are learning to produce I highly recommend you follow @illGatesMusic and look into some of the @ProducerDojo memberships!
I’ve watched at least one of his seminars, talked to some of the senseis and in fact I’ve met Him!

What I can tell you is anyone I’ve talked to from the @ProducerDojo has been really cool and friendly and helpful!
Some of the most critical and best feedback I ever got was from one one of the senseis and honestly @illGatesMusic is one of the most down to earth people I’ve ever met which is something that still blows me away to this day!
They will not disappoint! :)
