I think we need to talk about @lindsaylohan criminally underrated music career and her past albums and her new song ‘Back To Me’ where she proves she’s stronger and more mature then ever and ready to show the world how strong of a woman she is.
Lindsay Lohan started her music career with some songs for her movies in 2003/2004. Drama Queen (That Girl) and Ultimate both became hits where they were promoted and proved Lindsay had power not just in acting but also singing.
Later in 2004 she released her debut standalone single ‘Rumors.’ Not only did Rumors go straight to number one on TRL it also went gold. The song addresses her need for some privacy, the world wouldn’t give it to her. The song was a hit and still gets played.
In December of 2004 ‘Speak’ was released worldwide. The album wasn’t acclaimed by critics however most of it was clear targeting due to her teen idol status. The album addressed her relationships, media, fame, etc. It’s well documented she was very involved in Speak. (1/2)
Speak performed very well and sold over 2 Million copies worldwide despite Lindsay herself admitting later she didn’t promote her music much (Ellen 2014). The album became so meaningful to a generation due to it’s truly underrated power and personal vibe.
The second single ‘Over’ was promoted on several TV shows including the Ellen show which highlights one of her best ever vocal performances. Over was written about her boyfriend at that time and she sang it in the room next to him. One of my personal fav Lilo songs.
Over Live On Ellen (2004) :
The next single from Speak was ‘First.’ Another personal favorite of mine and it was used for the soundtrack of Herbie Fully Loaded. The song had an rock girl edge that the previous two singles lacked and it showed that Lindsay was indeed a versatile singer.
In the months following Herbie the public scrutiny towards Lindsay increased substantially. Whether it be about her weight, clubbing, or relationships a camera was always on her. It was clear the media was turning more and more vicious towards her.
Not only that lindsays family life was under intense scrunity as well. Her dad Michael was widely covered and her mom Dina recieved massive negative press as well. Almost every aspect of her life was up for criticism by the media. I feel images here would be disrespectful.
Later in October of 2005 when media fever around Lindsay was continuing to increase she released ‘Confessions Of A Broken Heart (Daughter To Father)’ an open letter song to her father and a statement on HER life. What SHE was going through. The song made it clear she was in pain.
The song was dismissed by many critics as ‘basic daddy issues song.’ This can now be viewed as dismissive and disrespectful. Lindsay wrote this song and clearly meant every word she was saying. The music video however recieved widespread acclaim. Another personal favorite.
Confessions Of A Broken Heart Live at the AMAs (2005)
The album ‘A Little More Personal (Raw)’ dropped later that year and featured no further singles. The album was better recieved then Speak and it was just as the title told. It was more personal, it was a true album. She was also heavily involved just as she was with Speak.
Lindsay spoke in this album about how she felt lost, but she knew it was going to work out. “God won’t talk to me,” she felt abandoned, she felt isolated. She was still just a teenager and she wasn’t being treated as a young adult strong woman should be treated.
It seemed Lindsays singing career was taking off, Confessions Of A Broken Heart was her most succesful single yet. However no further singles came and in the following two years the media presence over her would only increase. Lindsay was a daily tabloid feature.
Then in 2008 she released ‘Bossy.’ In the peak of her widely covered struggles she was affirming control. She knew her worth and wouldn’t let anyone tell her otherwise. It’s a fan favorite and my personal favorite Lindsay Lohan song! It was far ahead of it’s time.
It seemed an album was coming, but like the other singles for A Little More Personal it never came. For the next decade the stories would continue, the constant harassment would continue, and the paparazzi would continue to target her.
For the next decade the stories would continue, the hate would continue, and lindsays troubles would continue as well. After a period of many troubles Lindsay would become sober and decided to take some time from acting and music to focus on herself and other ventures.
Then in 2019 almost out of nowhere Lindsay announced she was coming back to music she released Xanax to non major streaming services and it was loved by fans (please still release it). Xanax was only part of this new music comeback however.
