Breathing is a function that is both conscious and unconscious.
Only we as humans can breathe consciously.
Breath is the bridge between physiological processes and our other koshas.
I find it easier to stop my incessant mind activity by breathing consciously.
Science of Breath
...is fascinating.
Tortoise has the lowest breath rate per minute. 3-4. Hence their life span in very long. 200 years?(they say).
Breathe slow and steady like a tortoise!
And abdominal breathing slows down our breath rate and also decreases our oxygen consumption.
The more is our oxygen consumption, the higher the rate of metabolism and energy consumption. Hence yogic practices in general decreases oxygen consumption.

Breath is neutral. You cannot like your breath nor dislike your breath. It's a portal to connect one to REALITY
Breath helps break the polarity of mind - Raga and Dwesha.
Anchoring one"s awareness on breath helps to observe reality without any bias. Asthu and Asmi.

Breathing with awareness opens up the pre frontal cortex of our brains. Shifting it from sympathetic autonomous functioning
...to parasympathetic functioning relaxing our entire psycho physiological processes.

To me breath is about breaking Dwanda or Dwanda kashaya.
They call it the power of Now or Timelessness
Swara or Breath is the razor sharp awareness of everything within and without.
Nothing escapes our view in that laser sharp awareness.
Be it the subtle change in temperature in the inhalation or the shift in a subtle tone of emotion within, the entire movement of mind and body can be observed and understood for what it is.
Such an awareness is used in our kalaripayattu and other forms of martial arts.
Swara Yoga is part of our Agama Shastra where a swara yogi literally observes their breathing patterns in relation to cosmic events.
The swara patterns change during each paksha- shukla and krishna
Paksha- waxing and the warning moon. Even at this moment, one can check which swara is open- Ida ( left nostril) or pingala(right nostril) or dominant. When Ida is dominant, there is more relaxed receptivity and openness- or a satwik state of mind.
When pingala is dominant
there is Rajo Guna pradhana. We can be physically active during this time.
Swara Yoga prescribes what activities to undertake during the predominance of each nadi.
When Sushmna is active, then our breath is equally balanced in both the nostrils. This is a shoonya zone.
During this time, it's best to do nothing. Just do Dhyana and be ready for Samadhi. Any actions taken during this time renders or nullifies karmic action and reaction and hence not useful for our vyvahara.
Breath has so many vast dimensions to explore.
I AM a lover of breath😁
Because She allows WHAT IS in the HERE and NOW without any colorings and biases of my chaotic mind space! 😁

Shall stop here...
