Katy Perry& #39;s "Teenage Dream" had five #1 hit singles. Can& #39;t really imagine anything that happening again anytime soon. The whole concept of "successive hits" seems increasingly like a thing of the past.
Like, yes, there have been a couple albums in the last couple years with traditional hits in succession ("Scorpion," "thank u next") but now it seems like you have the lead single(s) and then maybe one other cut that catches on and peaks at #18 if you& #39;re lucky
No, it& #39;s just the distribution model now. If everyone has access to every album at once, it& #39;s hard to keep people& #39;s attention on a record past its release date. https://twitter.com/RBackhander76/status/1279224181129953280">https://twitter.com/RBackhand...
I think the decline of terrestrial radio probably has a lot to do with it. When it was still holding its own ground with streaming, it was a lot easier to force a song into the public consciousness and extend an album cycle https://twitter.com/APope45/status/1279225013632151552">https://twitter.com/APope45/s...
