i think the thing that sucks about writing male characters like batman and john constantine is that male writers just make them into power fantasies and i don't think they should be written that way. i think they're the opposite of toxically masculine but men are socialized+
to be dumb in that way and write them wrong. when they aren't that kinda character. furthermore, its a bit hard to write characters like that, that last forever bc you have to keep making drama and making them miserable+
so they just get disposable female love interests who aren't ultimately their equals and they have much more interesting relationships w zatanna and selina kyle but the writers can't give them these much more interesting women who are in everyway+
their equals bc they'd (in their eyes) be giving them "a happy ending" and supposedly no one wants to see that. never mind the fact that you can mine monogamous relationships between two very traumatized and mentally ill people for as much drama as anything else+
but apparently they don't understand that for some reason? for some reason only female writers seems to understand that and its very gross. the outlander books may not be *amazing* but at least diana gabaldon understood that and how to write that+
and even the writers of the tv show understood how to write that. so, it makes you wonder why tf any comic book writers don't understand or know how to write that supposedly.
