A quick thread.
Arizona is loaded with the coronavirus right now for many reasons, and one of them is the work culture.

Right before I moved away from Phoenix, I was the sickest I’ve probably ever been. I had a wild sinus infection that was extremely painful. Maybe the worst pain that I’ve ever experienced.
I let it get like that. I didn’t have insurance, and I didn’t want to pay to see a doctor, so like every other time I got sick, I fought it with natural remedies. This time none of that worked.
I ain’t a lil bitch so I work through it all. Had two jobs: one on the radio and another in a restaurant. Boss at the restaurant had absolutely no compassion.
I was showing up to work, sicker than a dog, asking him if he wanted me to go home because I was pale, had a stuffy, runny nose and my voice was coarse. I wasn’t sure people would be comfortable having their food handled by someone that sick. He said continue to work.
So I did. I wanted to get paid and I had the “work through the pain” mentality instilled in me by my father. But one day it was just too much.
I called in and told him that I couldn’t make it because I was sick and he sounded pissed off about it. I got someone to cover but he still wasn’t happy. The next day I couldn’t find someone to cover so he told me that I had to come in.
So I came in, and all my coworkers were worried. They could clearly see that I was messed up and they couldn’t belive I was working. I felt like absolute dog shit. My whole face and head felt like it was being pressed with a vice.
I had fluid coming out of my ears, so I plugged them with cotton. I could hardly talk. Customers felt really bad for me. I was absolutely miserable.
My boss clearly didn’t care because he said not a word to me that day, and he put me on the next weeks schedule.

At the same time I was interviewing for a job in San Antonio. After that nightmare of a serving shift, I got offered the job. Same day I went to the cvs clinic and got antibiotics.
Next day I was supposed to be at work, but I called in 5 mins before I was supposed to be there and I told him to fuck himself.
I say all this to say that this story is still happening with COVID-19 in AZ. These business owners there don’t care about shit but $$$.

I’ve seen numerous stories of business owners in AZ lying about employees having covid, or telling them to continue to come to work. Their short sighted greed isnt just making a 20-something dude’s life a nightmare anymore, it’s costing lives.
