THREAD. The transgender homicide epidemic narrative is false. This claim is often repeated to bolster the false assertion that transgender ppl are society’s “most vulnerable and oppressed." And while any murder is tragic, inaccurate claims are inappropriate. 3 items of note: 1/8

1. AMONG THE SAFEST DEMOGRAPHIC.  Trans ppl are among the *safest* homicide demographics in the US. Per capita analyses reflect their homicide rates are *below* all major demographics. 2/8

2. MOST DEATHS ARE NOT TRANS RELATED. While the trans population is majority white (abt 66%) & female (abt 58%), over 90% of trans homicides are Black males. White males or females of any race are rarely victims. If trans 3/8

status was dispositive, based on demographics, white homicide numbers wld be much higher. Further, white trans ppl, male & female, routinely *appropriate* the deaths of Black trans males to falsely claim these risks apply to them. They do not. And on that note, a review of 4/8

the *news reports* of trans deaths reflect that very few are trans related, & instead mostly involve drug related & routine street violence, as well as violence associated w/ prostitution, a grp with one of the highest homicide rates in the country.  Infrequently any evidence 5/8

of a trans related motive. Ask yourself why *every* transgender death is reported as a hate crime *regardless of the facts.* There is *no other* demographic in America, not even Black ppl, for whom this is the case. Imagine if every female death or every Black death was 6/8

reported in this manner. Hell, HRC doesn’t even bother to list every *LGB* death.

A grp that is predominantly white, & whose most prominent activists & financiers are white males--the least oppressed demographic on earth--is not society's "most vulnerable & oppressed." 7/8

This is data from 18 countries incl Brazil w/ one of the world's highest trans male death rates. This number, also appropriated, is not applicable to the US trans population. 8/8
